Last night, Tessanne Chin won Season 5 of The Voice.

Whether we were in Half Way Tree to join in the festivities or in front of our television sets with family and/or friends – thousands of Jamaicans and friends around the world celebrated with Tessanne not only last night, but throughout her journey on The Voice.  In fact, Tessanne is the sole reason many of us even watched Season 5 of The Voice.

The celebrations continued after the results were announced.  Iyanla Vanzant tweeted:

What are some of the lessons that we can learn from Tessanne’s journey?
1. Learn from your past challenges – if He brought you to it, He will bring you through it.
2. Do not be afraid to dream – the bigger and more impossible the dream, the better.
3. Believe that your ‘impossible’ dreams can come through.
4. Know that you will always get what you need and sometimes you’ll even get what you want.
5. Stay true to you and do not try to be like somebody else.  The Lord only made one you.  And as Dr Seuss said: “Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.”
6. Surround yourself with people who will support you through it all.  Remember always that good friends and family are better than pocket change.
7. Believe in love. Love can and do move mountains.

8.  Be patient and keep your eye on the prize.
9. Do not be afraid to fail.  Things rarely go according to plan, so when things do get of course, reassess and adjust as necessary and keep it moving.
10. Take action and do it afraid! Tessanne would not have won if she didn’t take the necessary steps and entered the competition.
